It is often said that Personal Support Workers are the backbone of the health care system, and in no place is this truer than in home and community care. Care Giver Agency’s Personal Support Workers provide care for patients across the province in homes, retirement homes, and shared care settings.
Our patients tell us over and over that the care they receive from their Personal Support Workers is the most important part of their health care services. Care Giver Agency assists patients to get all the day-to-day things done that are essential for good health but that the patients may no longer be able to do safely for themselves.
Care Giver Agency helps patients with bathing, dressing, toileting, meal preparation, light housekeeping, exercising, and medications. Sometimes Personal Support Workers receive additional training from Care Giver Agency to perform skilled tasks such as administering insulin or using a glucose meter.
Care Giver Agency is also very important in providing relief for families who need a break from providing care for an ill family member. Many of Care Giver Agency’s Personal Support Workers have additional training in caring for a person living with dementia so that families who need time away to refresh can be sure their loved one with dementia symptoms is well cared for.
